You take the aligners out to eat, drink and clean your teeth. Then you put them back in. They work only while you wear them, so the daily wear time matters.

Invisalign or braces: what is the difference?
Clear aligners and fixed braces both move teeth. They do it in different ways, and each suits different cases.
- How they look. Aligners are clear plastic. Braces use brackets and wires fixed to your teeth.
- Taking them out. You remove aligners to eat and clean. Only your dentist removes braces.
- Eating. With aligners out at meals, you can eat as usual. With braces, you avoid some hard or sticky foods.
- Cleaning. With aligners, you brush and floss as normal. Braces need extra care around the brackets.
- Your part. Aligners work only when you wear them 22 hours a day. Braces stay in all the time.

Dr Srikanth graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery. He completed his periodontology training overseas and has experience in treating gum disease. He is registered as a general dentist.
His interests include complex dental needs, gum disease, wisdom teeth, cosmetic dentistry and dental implants. He is a certified Invisalign provider and also speaks Hindi and Telugu.
